RSI Indicator Complete Guide
RSI (Relative Strength Index) is a momentum indicator developed by J. Welles Wilder in 1978. It produces a value between 0 and 100 to identify overbought/oversold conditions.
What is RSI
RSI measures the ratio of upward to downward moves over a period, scaled 0-100. The standard period is 14 days.
RSI Calculation Formula
RSI = 100 - (100 / (1 + RS)). RS = Average Gain / Average Loss over 14 periods.
Overbought/Oversold Interpretation
Above 70: overbought. Below 30: oversold. In strong trends, RSI can persist above 80 or below 20.
Divergence Trading
Price makes new high but RSI doesn't = bearish divergence. Used as trend-reversal signal.
RSI in Crypto
Crypto's high volatility makes 4h/daily RSI more reliable. 1-minute RSI tends to be noisy.
