What ETH actually is on-chain

Another asset tracked on this site also uses the ticker ETH: The Ticker Is ETH (Solana, 2kaRSu…pump). These are unrelated tokens with separate contracts, separate supply and separate price histories — a price alert set on one of them says nothing about the others, and a ticker search is not enough to tell them apart.

Both a written specification and readable code exist, which is a materially higher bar than most assets in this size range clear. Ethereum is ranked #2 by market capitalisation, in the very top of the table. That high was set about a year ago, recently enough that it still anchors how most current holders frame the asset.

With no locked treasury to unlock, dilution comes from protocol issuance over time rather than from a cliff on a vesting calendar, which tends to produce slow supply drift instead of discrete unlock shocks. A supply in the hundreds of millions keeps the unit price in a range where round-number levels are genuinely traded, which makes price-threshold alerts more reliable than they are on high-supply tokens.

What kind of asset ETH is

Ethereum is a base-layer network, so ETH is simultaneously the chain's security budget and its unit of account rather than a claim on a business. 3,072 tokens tracked on this site are tagged to its ecosystem. That is the second-largest such set here, behind Solana's 3,129. The honest way to value a chain at that scale is as infrastructure rent: demand for ETH is derived from how much economic activity chooses to settle there, and because large smart-contract platforms compete for the same developers, these assets trade on ecosystem-share narratives far more than on incremental releases. It is secured by proof of stake, so a portion of the supply is bonded to validators at any moment and the float genuinely available to trade is smaller than the circulating figure implies; unstaking queues, not order books, set how fast that can change.
