What YFI actually is on-chain

yearn.finance is an ERC-20 deployed on Ethereum, at contract address 0x0bc529c00c6401aef6d220be8c6ea1667f6ad93e. That address, not the ticker YFI, is what uniquely identifies this asset: anyone can deploy a second token calling itself YFI, but the contract is unforgeable. Verify it against etherscan.io before sending funds or approving a spend.

Because it lives on Ethereum, YFI is held in any EVM-compatible wallet, transfers are paid for in ETH rather than in YFI itself, and secondary liquidity sits in Uniswap-style AMM pools.
